figured out a workaround for the scale by taking it off wifi and using BT via a tablet/phone. it works, it's free, good enough for now. not sure why, but I have a solution and I can adapt.

busy this morning, so will keep it short. may have lunch with BF, but it also looks like rain, so we'll see. might do a half day.
