Debbie Cousins's Journal, 23 Oct 22

YIKES! Gotta get ready for church soon! Real quickly:

Didn't toss the crème Brulee - I ended up eating it after all. Calories for the day were only in the 1,600's though, so not too bad. And, now it is all gone, and I think I'm going to decline the next time my daughter offers me some. Actually, maybe I'll tell her that next time she makes it, don't tell me.

No bowel movement yesterday, so weight was up from 229.4 to 230.6. Quite a large jump for one day, but I'm confident it will be back down tomorrow - especially if my digestion improves. Ate two sugar-free candies a few hours ago, but no effect on me. Drat!

After the trunk-or-treating yesterday, we went to a spook house at a local theater. My grandson really enjoyed it! It involved walking up and down two flights of stairs, but I'm not hurting any more than usual today, PTL!

Drank an extra can of Diet Coke yesterday, but still got in all of my water. No particular "reason" I drank the extra - I just wanted it, and I drank it without caring much. I'm finding that having one exception to my own self-imposed rule occasionally doesn't throw me off track for the next day now.

Ok, gotta go and find out about those children of Israel wandering around in the desert for 40 years!

It sounds from previous posts that your daughter will be supportive enough that if you ask her that, she'll respect your wishes 😊 There's something to be said for not keeping certain foods in the house. My personal kryptonite is pretzels, and I had to banish them. As for the extra soda -- I find a little wiggle room lets me feel less deprived and stops me from obsessing about what I "can't" have. You're doing great, Debbie 👍

I personally wouldn't worry about the diet coke. No calories and you are making it up in water. I know it isn't healthy but sometimes it helps when you are losing weight to have something you enjoy

Oh, what a wonderful idea you came up with: telling your daughter to not even tell you the next time she makes creme brulee. Even better than planning to decline, which is harder. Not that you couldn't do it, of course, you could. But not putting temptation in our way is better and easier. Great!

@writingwyo, I love pretzels too. I usually sneak three thin sticks once a day. Since 53 is a serving, three is too small to record.

Oh how I wish I could stop at 3 sticks on those! More like stop at half a full sized bag 😳 It's one of the few foods I can't seem to moderate. Granola ain't great either, and that stuff is REALLY high calorie!

Not allowing pretzels in the house sounds like the best bet for you. I'm afraid my mother-in-law is going to bring me back a slice of Franklin Nut Cake from her vacation (I sent a whole one with them). It is 630 calories a slice, and when I would make it for home, I would eat 3-4 slices a day!

You're doing great Debbie, everything in moderation.
