Hi UDTres, last month you commented about a fat burning heart rate zone... I've been playing around with my Garmin for a month now and I have a question you might be able to help me with... The heart rate thing has more variables than I expected... I got my magic number (my average HR for walking was only a heartbeat away when I knew what I was looking at), but I have not been able to find any info on that sweet fat burning 'range'... Mr Garmin has set my 'zones' either side of my HR number 112... How do you know the range? Is it +7/-7 that lovely number or +/- 15?

Ok to manually calculate that here’s the formula 220-your age then multiply 0.7 to give you your year rate for fat burning. The 0.7 is the 70% of your peak heart rate. So I would like during my walk to be around this number . Mine is 220-52=168x0.7=117 So I need to be around 107 and temporarily on 127 at times Because I walk on the treadmill it’s very easy and controlled to be around this number Or walk till you break a sweat and still can hold a conversation then you’re in the fat burning zone otherwise follow your calculated HR for fat burning

Thanks for taking the time to explain that. It seems my smart watch is programmed to set my magic number at the top end of zone 2 (easy) and zone 3 (cardio)... Thankfully I recently bumped into an old friend out in the wilds of the reserve where I walk and so now have a walking partner... I think it's fair to say we converse for the entirety of our walks 😁 she'll be happy to know the beads of sweat are going to help us gauge our pace for maximum benefit 👍 thanks again...
