wafflewitz's Journal, 06 Jun 23

So today is June 8. This is what I weighed June 6. I have no idea what I weigh today, because the afternoon of June 6 my house caught on fire. Whole garage is burnt to a crisp, kitchen has major damage, whole house probably has smoke damage. Thankfully we were all able to get out of the house quickly. I have some very minor burns, my husband has second degree burns on his hands, but not too much pain and some skin is already growing back. Luckily we have the best neighbors. Been sleeping in the basement apartment of a friend. Different neighbors take turns feeding us and they've given us clothes and a car to use until we get stuff figured with insurance. I give thanks to God for all the many miracles in my life! Been eating a decent amount of junk, need to remember to take time to eat some of the fruits and veggies people brought too. But that's not high on my priority list right now.

Wow, that sucks! What caused the fire?

My husband had been working in the garage on prepping a car for a demolition derby. He had been welding, but he's a novice welder and got frustrated and decided to take a break. 15 min later I see smoke coming into the kitchen. We guess that the welder smoldered and started the fire.

You are so lucky to escape alive, keep the focus there when you’re feeling frustrated.

I'm sorry about your misfortune. Life's setbacks make it difficult to stay healthy. Stress eating is difficult to control by even the most disiplined person. The activity of cleaning up and repairing the damage may help you control the stress, burn more calories and stay too busy to over eat. Best wishes to you and your family during this unfortunate time.

Yes good thing you guys made it out! Frustration never leads to anything positive I found that out years ago. I don’t get frustrated anymore instead I stop and think when something is hard to get to cuz I know working frustrated will lead to more problems. And it has in the past.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with fire repairs and very grateful ya'll are ok and that's all that matters. I say that having had to deal with a home fire too. I'm glad yours wasn't worse and happy you have caring and generous neighbors. Aren't guardian angels wonderful?❣️
