New low today - 183.8. Don’t expect it to hold for tomorrow’s weigh-in unless my bowels move again today. The walking is helping! Hopefully, I’ll be able to increase it to 5 miles per day in a week or two!

I’ve decided that I’m not as concerned about health and nutrition as I am just being able to eat what I want to and maintain my weight or (better!) continue to lose slowly. At 69, and after being “on a diet” most of my life since I was 22 (almost a half a century!) I’ve decided that I want to ENJOY my food instead of feeling guilty or defeated by it.

Making my grand daughter a homemade Fresh Lemon Layer Cake for her birthday this week, with Lemon Cream Cheese Frosting and decorated with Candied Lemon Slices (which I’m also making). One-twelfth of the cake is 833 calories. If I’m able to cut it into 16ths, it’s still 625 calories per slice (not counting the Candied Lemon decorations!).
83.4 kg Lost so far: 34.1 kg.    Still to go: 15.3 kg.    Diet followed: Reasonably Well.

You really need to find what works for you, and if this works for you go for it 😊 How's the knee doing with the walking?

You've developed some excellent eating habits, go for it.

Debbie, it doesn't have to be all or nothing. I'm close to your age. I've figured out nutrition is about how you feel....whether you're going to remain healthy as you age. Like you, I've dieted for appearance over the years. Eating foods with nutrients has become more important (or more of a focus) as I've aged. I still have treats....every day. I just pick & choose so there's a balance. And even my healthy meals taste good. You can eat just about anything you like as long as you manage your calories.

I'm 71 and am in a similar mindset. I do want to lose more weight but not have to starve to death or live on kale to do it. There is only so much I am capable of.

Morticia -- I feel much the same way. Actually, I happen to love kale, but I do NOT do hungry. I tried IF one day...it lasted about 3 hours before I wanted a snack 🤣

I found myself thinking of food as I get older a challenge also. My philosophy on eating cake is once in awhile is fine! Everything should be done in moderation. If you feel guilty about eating something then just don’t eat it again for awhile 😉 I’m sure if you are eating the right things the majority of the time you don’t have to worry about the scale. (I don’t trust them anyway, lol)

Writingwyo, the knee is doing fine with the walking. I still ice it after every mile, and take Tylenol and Ibuprofen to keep the pain from getting out of hand. Both the Surgeon and the Physical Therapist say to let pain be my guide. If the pain gets worse, I’m doing too much. If it gets better, I can do more. I was doing the PT exercises 7 days a week, even though it was only suggested to do 3. I found that was too much. Now, on days when I GO to PT, I don’t do any additional PT at home, and I don’t do it on Sundays. Walking is an EVERY day thing for me though. I started walking on 10/27/22, and so far I’ve walked 321 days in a row (with the exception of the few days after knee surgery.
