lizpackard09's Journal, 03 Jan 23

Reflecting back to this time last year and the few notes I began making as per my darling daughter's recommendation to document my health and weightloss journey. I was 58 years old and 58 kg heavier than I am now (I was also 1cm taller - but we won't go there...) I was fiddling around trying to count my calories and trying to plan meals ahead on paper because I hadn't found this app yet 🤯 I didn't know about macros or portion control (a single serve of rice is only 1/2 cup, cooked (90-100g) - REALLY 😮). I hadn't started exercising yet (not even walking) for a couple of reasons, the main one being I was so heavy my joints and back ached after just a short distance and I became breathless really quickly. I ate 3 meals and 2 snacks plus 6-8 cups of coffee/ milk daily. I was working on increasing my sleep, water intake and swapping snacks from packaged stuff (biscuits, chips, chocolate) to whole food options (cucumbers and carrots) I think I was eating about 3 whole carrots a day last January (as well as my meals) hahaha. I am now eating 2 or 3 meals/day - no snacks and I meal prep twice a week, every week. Drink minimum 3lt water day plus 3-4 coffee/ teas inc milk. I am walking 4-6km at least 6 days/week, just getting started with weight and resistance training. I sleep 7-9 hours/night (so still working on that making that a constant 😬) In this past year the changes I made to my diet and lifestyle, on their own were tiny (really minimal). Some were harder than others, and some just didn't work for me... but perhaps the biggest key l found was to be consistent. Just keep chunking away at the goals - one by one - big or small, and take joy in every hurdle overcome 🤸‍♀️🥳🤸‍♀️ they add up in time 💪 Looking forward to what this year holds 🎉😉🎉

You are such an inspiration, and I am sure a lot of my joint and back pain is partly due to my weight, I can so relate to this re the walking, although some is medical, but not bone on bone yet, wish I could get on the water, well done happy new year

You’re amazing! I think you are right with your philosophy of inch by inch. My youngest daughter is on a weight loss journey too and she says it is a marathon - not a sprint. So - it is going to take a little while - but it will be an amazing feeling to cross that finish line. Keep up the good work - onwards and downwards!!

You are an inspiration 58kg in a year is incredible. Thank you for posting your reflection it is great to read. P.S that is how much my 33 year old daughter weighs . No wonder you can do more walking. If you find the secret to more consistent sleep please let me know. I totally struggle to get 4 hours in a stretch.

That is amazing. I hope I can match your exercise and eating habits this year! I may have lost my weight, but I'm struggling with the health part of things!

That’s a wow story! I am inspired but I believe it’s the consistency that is key. May I ask did you go with the higher or lower calorie recommendation?

Thanks for all your likes and comments guys - feeling the love 🤗 flossyflu - I started using a water app about 6 months before I found FS... I think I was dehydrated for most of my adult life and it makes a huge difference to skin, mental clarity, feeling full ... Robpk 👍 I'm up from 6hrs ave duration (and very average quality too), I noticed as my diet improved the quality of my sleep improved, but as I said - still working on consistent duration... I am hoping as I get more disciplined with the resistance training that will help... UDTres - your transformation was equally impressive, just more subtle as you were sculpting 👍 Newme2296 - I worked my way down to my current cals of 1200/day over several months. Whole foods with 100g+ protein, 30-50g fats, 80-100g carbs and 20-25g fibre. I am playing around with the balance of protein and fibre ATM whilst trying to stay in my caloric deficit... Thanks again everyone 😉

Inspiring! I had this idea that during the transition to menopause and all the hormonal mischief my body's embroiled in, I couldn't lose this extra weight I've gained. Clearly, the older women in the group have blown that theory out of the water! Thank you.

AbiKat@ on behalf of the older women in this group "you are most welcome" 🤣 Some of us are also looking to dispel the theory that you can't build muscle after a certain age 💪 Our bodies are amazing !!!
