Started back on the 5:2 diet, where I fast for 2 days per week. So far I have been managing well, a lot better than the last time I tried. It gets easier as you get further in to it. Monday and Thursdays are my fast days and you can only eat 500 calories in a 36 hour period. 600 calories for men. Lost 1kg since in a week.
82 kg Lost so far: 1 kg.    Still to go: 22 kg.    Diet followed: Reasonably Well.

Some of my work mates did this 5:2 diet. But the 500 calories was for 2 days a week = 48 hours. The other days they only consumed 1500 calories. I couldn't do it, made me feel physically sick. But they both lost heaps of weight, to the point where people were asking if they had an illness, so don't get carried away.

I have been using 5:2 for almost a year, and averaged 1kg loss per month. Each week, I do 500 calories on 2 days, and aim for 1200 calories 4 days, and 1600 calories (my RDI) 1 day. Being consistent with this, even with special treats such as birthday dinners, work functions etc, I have averaged 1200 calories per day most months. This is a long term thing - as long as you are getting close to goal most of the time, it will pay off. Remember to exercise and be sensible about where your calories are coming from, and know when you need to NOT be going low cal !

My RDI for slow weight loss is 2000 cal per day. For faster weight loss it is 1800. I am trying to eat around 1500 calories per day on my non fasting days, but I try not to stress too much if I go over that. As long as I don't go over 2000.
