I decided to adjust my diet for a while due to ongoing constipation. Maybe its not parasites to blame. Maybe only eating once a day isnt the right choice for me. Maybe I am overtaxing my digestive system eating my entire calories in the evening. Hmmm It probably sounds very obvious and dumb. I guess though, when one has been bombarded by so many conflicting messages about food, one can lose their own common sense in all the confusion. I havent allowed fruit ( other than a few berries in a yoghurt) as I have been scared about sugar and cravings. Yet I also allowed myself to eat chocolate on an evening. doh why am I restricting a natural sugar source and yet eating a processed bar as a treat? Its summer time here in Australia. Good time to fiddle with my diet and to eat some fruit. Oh boy it tastes sooo refreshing, and this morning was finally a good morning and everything is moving along again. I was perfectly normal in that department after weeks of suffering. I am hoping that this new tweak is the right step to take for my body and health. I can live the rest of my life on one meal a day but I would rather not. So far I have tried a paleo based diet, and the 5:2 diet. Both worked. I lost weight and learnt some good knowledge. However I chose not to follow either anymore. I gave up the paleo diet as after 4 months of following it strictly I started to throw up after eating meat. My body just said NO, that it did not like snacking on protein every 3 hours and I no longer felt good on it. The good effect of this diet was I started to CRAVE vegetables which was completely new for me. I am quitting the 5:2 diet as, mentally, its turning into an unhealthy process. 5 days a week I am suppose to eat normally and yet I dont. I fear that if I eat 3 times a day I will find the 2 low calorie days too hard to do, and will put on weight. So I basically restrict everyday. Its not hard for me to do as my body is use to it after years and years. I simply switched drinking wine all day to drinking tea all day and eat only after 5pm, however my body obviously is developing issues (constipation, stomache pain, a big sign that things are not going well in the digestive system) I see all of this as an ongoing battle. I may not drink alcohol anymore but I havent won the fight yet. My drinking was my eating.. that is how I got my carbs, energy requirements. I literally lived on the fuel that alcohol provided. (2 litres a day!) This is why I see my alcoholism the same as a food issue. I quit the alcohol but I am still left with an unhealthy addictive mentality and I need to learn to eat without taking on a new problem. (AA meetings have been renowned for handing out coffee and timtams, substituting one addiction with another) For myself, personally, this is all one journey and not separated. I plan to continue eating fruit during the day, or allowing myself to eat a salad for lunch for a few weeks and see if my weight goes up. If it does then I will re-think and tweak again =) I really hope this works as I just want to eat normally, and not follow some regime. I dont want days in my life which I dont look forward to. ( i.e low calorie monday)

Good luck figuring out what WOE works best for you. I have problems with constipation no matter what I eat, always have. LCHF is the best plan for me because I am a carb addict. The more I eat the more I want. Never satisfied, eat til I hurt and still want more. Jeez! My sister doesn't even like meat, so it would never work for her. The best diet is the one you can stick to. Rooting for you!

Thanks again Rhontique for your support. It is absolutely horrible to suffer constipation so I am sorry to hear you have had this for a long time. I hated the feeling so much I was looking at everything I could possibly do. Castor oil definitely worked for a few days but I knew I could not use that consistently as a cure ( "Like any stimulant laxative, castor oil shouldn't be taken in the long term. Over time, it can reduce the muscle tone in your intestines and lead to chronic constipation.") I started to use a device called a squattypotty, which kinda helped me not to strain till I damaged something. The past two days I have had no trouble, not sure if thats due to eating 3 times a day or the fruit. I understand fruit isnt an option for you and you already eat small portions 3 times a day but are you allowed some "low-carbohydrate fruits that we think of as vegetables—foods like cucumbers, tomatoes, squashes, avocado, okra, and olives? (so long as you count their carbohydrate content and don’t overdo it)Or is this really a "not possible" zone. You are doing an awesome job at sticking to your plan so I would hate to suggest anything that would sabotage your progress.

I eat most veggies, the ones that grow below ground have more carbs, but I can't give up carrots! Most berries are lower in carbs and I indulge pretty rarely. I did have some fresh pineapple last weekend. I've got an acorn squash that I may fix tomorrow.
