This fried tofu is a crispy and fragrant accompaniment with a side of rice/noodles and steamed Asian vegetables. It also makes for a great addition of vegan protein to a salad. Be sure to buy firm tofu to maintain its shape while panfrying.
Ingredients
Directions
- Drain the tofu, then wrap in several layers of kitchen paper and press firmly to dry and remove as much moisture as possible.
- Mix the cornflour and Chinese 5-spice in a large mixing bowl. Cut the tofu into 2-3cm cubes and toss in the spiced cornflour until evenly dusted.
- Heat the oil in a large non-stick frying pan or wok and fry the tofu on medium-high heat for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally, until crisp and golden on all sides. Set aside on a plate lined with a paper towel and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
