Hi FSfam, I have a question for anyone who walks (like for exercise 😀). What sort of wear should you expect to get from your shoes? Is it unreasonable to expect more than 700km from a new pair of shoes (Sketchers)? This is a new thing for me... I've got no idea. Also, taking recommendations for brands or any other info you guys may have learnt on your journey - TIA...

Well I can recommend this brand called Brooks it’s the best I have always wore asics that cost around <170 but I Leah’s feel my toes tips feel kinda numb for some reason. The lady at the shop suggested to try the more expensive one of the ASICS they felt really good but I still feel my toes are not properly supported and that’s when she said to try brooks glycerin around 260 and nothing like ASICS ever so comfortable. My shoes are 3 years old now and are still in good condition and still very comfortable. Good to go check them out in a shop and then you buy it off online

I am using ASICS and my current ones are 3 years old. Very light and comfy. I really don't know how many kilometres I would have used so far. However, I am not a big walker to be honest.

I don't do anything hardcore with my shoes, and they have done over 4000k's! They are Hokas. I wear sketchers for work and they easy do 1500ks at least.

I swear by brooks running shoes. They are so comfortable and my feet are fully supported in them. Including my ankles.

Thanks guys... Appreciate your feedback!! I've looked at the ASICS and New Balance brands previously, but hadn't heard of Hokas or Brooks before. When I jumped online to have a look, there are some good sales on the Brooks ATM, so I need to get my skates on and find a shop to check them out IRL... I've been wearing Skechers work shoes for years, but once I started walking tracks and trails seriously, I found they didn't support my ankles well. Hoping I can get more than 4 months from my next pair of shoes, thanks again 👍

Hi Liz. I walk 5k 5 nights a week wearing GOwalk Arch Fit Sketchers. I get about 6-8 months out of a pair. Mostly walking on the road, not many footpaths where I live. I used to use New Balance, but they got real cheap with no arch support. Put on some fast paced music, set your mind free and enjoy the break from reality. Its not exercise its freedom :)

I LOVE Brooks. I’ve got wide and flat feet and they seem to last a long time. They also do not use horse glue so they’re an ethical choice!

Hi Liz, I'm a runner and it is reckoned that you should change your trainers every 500km. I would expect them to last longer walking due to the lesser impact. If you go somewhere like Athlete's Foot they can assess your gait and foot shape and then recommend an appropriate brand of footwear to best support your foot.

Hi Liz, I walk 5km every day and I wear ASICS. My OH wears Brooks. We did the whole foot check thing at Athletes Foot and they gave us a few different brands to try. The ASICS have great support and cushioning and are very comfortable. Same with the Brooks. They are good quality and long lasting. Incidentally, both brands are recommended by our local podiatrist.
